Jason Parrott 4th and 7th positions in this weekend’s British Kart Championship double-header, despite struggling with an underpowered engine and a lack of testing in the UK over the winter. The race took place at the Three Sisters circuit near Wigan, a track so fast it’s also used for car racing, so any engine problems would be exposed.

Although it’s a problem many drivers would love to have, Jason was also hampered by having done all his testing since last Autumn in Italy, where the climate is slightly warmer and the karts run on softer tyres.

He qualified 6th in timed practice, but went off at the start in the first heat leaving him to battle back up to 10th. In the second heat, Jason came in 4th, giving him 7th on the grid for the first final. He got up to fourth at the start of the first final, but was made to fight for it throughout the race, and in the second final he changed his engine but unfortunately didn’t find any more speed, finishing 7th.

“I think I’m going to be doing a lot of testing in the next few weeks,” said Jason, “I’m thinking of spending a solid four days on track before the next round at PF International in the middle of April.”

Jason is lying in 4th place in the Renault-backed championship, fifteen points behind Riki Christodoulou who won both races. He will race next at La Conca in the south of Italy, when the Italian Championship kicks off next weekend.
