Jason Parrott regained his past form in Round 2 of the British Kart Championship at the weekend, with a win and a second place at Oxfordshire’s Shenington circuit.

A difficult Saturday test day ended on a positive note after the team made some changes to the equipment, enabling Jason to qualify fourth on the grid. In the heats, he was consistent and fast, and although he didn’t post a victory he took advantage of non-finishes from his rivals to start on pole for the first of the two finals.

In Final 1, Jason held the lead at the start, but was briefly passed by Sheffield’s Gary Catt a few laps in. Reigning champion Mark Litchfield was on a charge though, and soon took Catt and then Jason as well.

Jason dropped back down through the field, later revealing that his engine performance had dropped off. A few more laps into the twenty-lap race, and Jason had solved the problem and came back through the field. He briefly regained the lead, but after a tussle with Catt dropped back several lengths while Litchfield slipped back in front. Jason was now secure in second, where he remained for the two laps until the flag, giving him second on the grid for the next final.

When the lights went green in Final 2, Jason stuck to pole man Litchfield’s bumper for half a lap before taking the lead at the chicane while three of his rivals crashed behind him. After that Jason was never challenged as Litchfield failed to find his earlier speed.

After four of the twelve races in the championship, Jason is now second to Litchfield, just seven points behind.

“It’s my first win since I changed chassis to the Maranello kart,” said Jason. “I’m delighted with the kart and it’s a real confidence boost going into the European Championship next weekend.”

The European race next weekend will be at La Conca in southern Italy, where Jason will rejoin the works Maranello team to compete against the cream of karting talent from Italy, France and across the continent.
