Jason closed up on the lead of the British Kart Championship on Sunday after scoring a 7th place and a (provisional) win at Larkhall in Scotland.

A broken exhaust pipe in the second heat was a setback and put him 17th on the grid for the first final, but he battled through to take third position by the third from last lap. Unfortunately he made a mistake and lost four seconds going through a gravel trap, dropping him down to 7th.

A controversial start from Hertfordshire driver Chris Rogers in the second final was to hand Jason the win after the race, but during the race he battled Riki Christodoulou for second place, eventually passing him near the end. Jason took the chequered flag half a second behind Rogers, but Rogers was handed a ten second penalty for jumping the start. Rogers is now appealing, so the result isn’t final until the Motor Sports Council have ruled on the decision.

Mark Litchfield retained his championship lead with ninth and fourth place finishes in the two finals, but after Rogers’ penalty promoted Jason to first place in the second final, the gap between himself and Litchfield is just five points with four races to go – reigniting the championship battle.

Jason will be in action again this weekend in France for the European Championships, but a commercial decision from his sponsor has led to a shortfall that may affect Jason’s participation in the World Championships in September. Any company that wishes to take the opportunity to step into the gap should contact Tim Parrott on 07711 603635.
