He qualified third in his group, placing him fifth overall, but in the first heat was pushed down to 17th by another driver. Undeterred, Philip bounced back to third and second in his other two heats to land in 11th on the Prefinal grid.

He came through to sixth place, just hundredths slower than the winner, Mats Van den Brand, and the team made a few changes to the kart to bridge that final gap for the main event. Unfortunately the kart wasn’t as strong, but the Steve Ogden-tuned engine was powerful so Philip moved up to fifth. Mistakes later on in the race dropped Philip down to eighth but he was happy to be the top British driver and top driver on a Tonykart. Team manager Tim is confident that Philip will be fighting for podiums during the rest of the season.
