Tim Parrott Motorsport are celebrating a successful weekend at the Kartmasters Grand Prix last weekend with a win for Andrew Tooley in Junior Rotax Max and a third place for Brian Parias in Rotax Max 177. Minimax drivers Callum Bowyer and Max Cornelius showed a lot of speed and potential which unfortunately wasn’t backed up with results, although the team is confident they are coming.
Andrew was the class of the huge field in Junior Max, where he started off his weekend by winning two heats and coming seventh in the other, where he had to come through from the back of the field. This put him third on the grid for the pre-Final, where he moved up to second at the first corner before he was pushed down to third. Undeterred, he hung on and then took his second place back to ensure a front-row grid position for the main event.
By then it was raining, but the conditions were playing right into Andrew’s hands. “I’m good in the wet so I was confident and I cut across to take the lead at the start,” he said.
Thereafter no one could get close enough to challenge him for the biggest win of his career so far. He will now carry the GP plate for the next twelve months and into the remainder of the Super One Championship, where he is currently second and just two points off the lead.
Brian was also justifiably happy with his weekend. He won a heat and in the Prefinal he started fourth and took two places at the start to get close but not close enough to this year’s dominant driver, Dan Holland.
In the main final Brian took the lead on the first lap and led for the first four until Holland got by, then the pair swapped places a few times before Holland started to pull away. “By then the rear tyres were losing grip, and I let Stephen Cobb past to see if he would fight with Holland and slow him down so I could catch them but it didn’t come off,” said Brian, who has experience at this going back 30 years! “It’s the only time Holland has been headed in a final this year, he usually just gets away at the start.”
In Minimax Callum Bowyer and Max Cornelius weren’t quite as successful but both showed their potential. Callum is new to the team, and together with his mechanic Chris Trott put the kart on grid three for the Pre-Final, where he eventually finished fourth. Unfortunately he oiled up on the rolling lap for the main Final but according to Tim, “He should have won, he was quicker than [eventual winner] Billy Albone and even better in the wet.”
Max suffered from a lack of seat time and although he moved up from 16th on the grid in the final to eighth but then he went off and finished 15th. Two days testing with team driver coach Jason Parrott this week should put him on course to compete against the best in the highly competitive junior category.
