Team News
This would prove an eventful weekend for Lewis and the team. Again in practice he was consistantly fast and in Qualifying there was a mistake made with the drivers and who they wanted to follow, this caused a bad qualifying session and he only qualified eighth.
The first heat was totally wet. Starting from eighth Lewis made it to fourth after the start, but coming down the straight he had to move over to overtake someone who had stopped on the racing line, he hit standing water, and ended up in the gravel track with a few others, but after the excursion he came back to finish 16th.
In the second heat Lewis made a brilliant start and got to third and was catching the leaders when a mistake casued him to smash the brake disk apart. This didn’t seem to affect him much as still catching the leaders even with missing most of the brake disk. Soon it became undriveable and the brake pads had been obliterated by parts of the smashed disk, and Lewis had to retire from the heat. Lewis said “I was quite scared when I came down the hill and went for the brake at the bottom only to find the pedal bouncing around under my foot, I thought it was some grit or a stone in the ventilated disk, but it didnt seem to go away, and when there was a loud metal on metal grinding sound I knew my race was over and I had to pull in…”
This put Lewis 16th for the first final. With nothing to lose he went for it and after a long race finished sixth with plenty of information for the team to work on and make it better for the second final.
Lewis started sixth for the second final and made a good start up to fourth and was going for third when he was pushed wide onto the gravel after the chicane and spun round right at the start. He was parked on the edge of the track with the grid going past lewis went to spin the kart around but was crashed into the front of completely writing the kart off, bending everthing on the front end, again another DNF when there could have been a promising result.
